We have beautiful camas fields in Victoria during the spring and they make the perfect backdrop for family photos. Busy four-year-old Alex wasn't overly interested in staying still but did come in for some cuddles with mom, dad, and baby brother Ben.

Sarah and I went through junior secondary and high school together and have kept in touch via social media over the years. I was excited to have the opportunity to photograph her and her husband, Adrian, in their home a couple weeks ago! It was a rainy day outside which only made our movie date home session cozier. During my pre-session consult with Sarah, she mentioned they like to watch movies together so we made that the theme of the session. When I got there, I discovered that "liking movies" was an understatement. Adrian is actually a filmophile and has reviewed movies and interviewed directors for different publications, including interviewing Park Chan-wook, one of South Korea's most acclaimed filmmakers, and Blackfish director Gabriela Cowperthwaite. So cool! Check out The Green Screen of Death for his podcasts!
For added fun, make sure to scroll to the very end for a flashback photo of Sarah and me at our grade 12 grad!
Sometimes sessions with young kids don't go as expected. Ok, let's be real... they rarely go as expected! That's part of what I love about photographing children, though. This cousins session from the spring was one where the two littlest kiddos were just not feeling 100%. Despite that (or maybe because of that), the realness and sweetness shone through. Plus, teary and pouty photos are really cute and always melt my heart.
